Governors
The governors meet regularly to make decisions regarding your child's education.
They deal with a whole range of issues including the curriculum, the building, national and local education initiatives and the school budget.
What we do?
We work with the staff in keeping Nelson Mandela School outstanding.
We do this by working with the leaderdship team (Head, Deputy Head and Assistant Heads) by:
1. Monitoring the performance and progress of our children
2. Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children
3. Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used
4. Support our children to be successful and improve their learning
5. Challenge our school so it continually improves and develops
6. Being involved in the day to day life of the school, this can be as simple as attending assemblies or even going on trips
How do we do this?
We meet together at least once a half term as a whole team, and sometimes in small groups (called Committees) about Finance, Staffing and the Curriculum.
Who we are?
The Governor's team is mixture of parents, staff, co-opted and local authority members. We are a member for four years. We each have an area that we take particular interest in (eg. Numeracy, Literacy, SEN).
We are always keen to hear your views and I hope that this page will help you to understand what we do, who we are and why we are serving as Governors.
Safeguarding - the governing body is fully committed to protect and safeguard the children in our care.
All governors have enhanced DBS clearances. This means we are cleared by the police to work with children.
• As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:
➢ target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
➢ develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
➢ prioritise training and awareness-raising in identified areas
➢ address potential ‘blind spots’ through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks • However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.
